I would argue that time is likely the most valuable assets that humans have; money can be earned, lost, and earned again. Time is an equal currency, it is fair, we are all given the same amount of time regard- less of status, wealth, age or gender...... Once used, time is lost forever...

It is impossible to regain.

THOMAS MARS

About Time - Artist Takeover at NoHo House

In the About Time works, my primary material has been Copper. Copper reacts with air but not with water and, with the excep- tion of a few rare isotopes, it is stable and non-radioactive. It is, along with gold, the only naturally occurring metal with a distinct colour of its own.

As with all of my works, numbers and symbols play a vital role, and in Copper this becomes increasingly clearer, as not only is copper unique, but its atomic number is 29. The number 29 is a particularly powerful number in numerology. It signifies change, ambition and progress.

In my perspective, copper signifies life, much like when you and I meet today and again tomorrow... not much changes, now the same goes for Copper, but let’s say we meet again in 10 years....

Time will influence how We and the Copper Pieces evolve, our layers will alter, and our own tales will continue to emerge with years of interaction with the world around us, just as the Copper Pieces will have with the air around it. Layers and layers will be added to our tale, just as copper layers and layers will grow with time. These 66 Pieces you see on the wall are part of a bigger installation with a total 365 Mine Me all unique, each of them represents one day of year, from 1st January to 31st December .. The size of the total installation will be 6 x 7 Meters.

Yin Yang + One
50 x 50 cm
Oil on Burlap, 1968 / 1969

Mars strikes a balance between Yin’s dark, negative and feminine energy and Yang’s positive, bright and masculine energy.

The bobbins, a leather belt from the French military, and the plus sign + stand for the connection between any two energies.

Game of Chess

52 x 152 cm
Burlap on Canvas

The number 64 in numerology represents self-determination, usually with a determination to take action in ways that benefit the family. The chessboard is made up of 64 squares. The energy of the number 64 explores novel concepts and innovative methods that can be adopt- ed by others. It also tries various things to see how much more can be accomplished by existing practices and equipment when modified. 64 is self-sufficient, conducts itself independently, and pursues its own objectives. However, the welfare of its family is generally a priority for it.

Mini Moi

160 x 124 cm
Acrylic, Burlap on Wood Frame

In ancestral relationship wisdom, the word “frame” has a deep meaning. Your frame is your perception of reality, which is a result of your ego, knowledge, and worldview on both a concrete and abstract level. This includes the limits you establish in your interactions with others and with yourself.

333

90 x 122 cm
Acrylic, Burlap on Canvas with Leather

333 appears often as a message to surrender and trust in all outcomes.
